she’s not arguing that it wasn’t IN culture. she’s arguing that it changed nothing ABOUT culture. i see it but she’s correct

Dozens of things go viral every year. The dress was in 2015. The fact that globally we all still know and dicsuss this means it significantly found it's place within our collective minds. Because let me tell you. I CANT NAME A SINGLE OTHER MEME / VIRAL THING OF THIS LEVEL from 11 years ago.

Tbh, I think it was culturally significant cause it introduced a LOT OF PEOPLE to the idea of color theory and color blindness…

it actually changed the internet, many trends where people were divided were born, like yenny and laurel, pink white sneakers etc.

I think this video is culturally significant, cause this shows it IS possible that Angela is the only sane one in a room. Something thought of as impossible before this example 😂

It was definitely a big discussion online. BUT it was by no means culturally significant 😁 I am totally with Angela on this one

Even if you consider it the biggest of the tens of thousands of infamous memes there have been, it's in the bottom 2% of cultural significance.

If her argument is that cultural significance means cultural impact, then an event that the entire world was discussing but had no real follow up, would be dead in the middle, so she’s wrong either way

Angela is 100% correct. something going viral doesn't mean it was culturally significant. culturally significant means it left an indelible effect on culture, or it changed culture. just because you remember sth happening doesn't mean it affected culture. e.g the creation of mtv, michael jackson's thriller music video, steve jobs unveiling the iphone, queen performing at live aid, the critic samuel jackson whose critique actually popularized the works of william shakespeare. all culturally significant things. the blue/yellow dress changed nothing about what you think, wear, watch, or read.

Artemis :
If you’ve had conversations about the dress with more than one person on separate occasions, it was significant enough to affect your life.

If you think about this, this is the perfect representation of the entire blue white dress conversation. We are arguing over if it is or isn’t significant.
