When I used to get called on when my hand wasn't raised, I would just stare silently at the teacher till they redirect to someone else. Usually worked as well.

When I was 14 my English teacher would make everyone clap for me whenever I spoke (stuff like answering the register) just because I was super quiet. I used to feel absolutely humiliated.
