@drkathynickerson: As a psychologist, I’m horrified by what the Lindsay Clancy case appears to reveal about gaps in our mental healthcare system. There are three critical problems I keep coming back to: 1. The medications. Lindsay was prescribed numerous psychiatric medications, with multiple changes over a relatively short period of time. Who was overseeing the entire medication picture? Who was tracking her response to each change, watching for worsening symptoms, and making sure every provider knew what the others were prescribing? 2. The follow-up. Just 19 days after leaving McLean Hospital, Lindsay killed her three children. For someone experiencing severe and rapidly changing psychiatric symptoms, what monitoring and follow-up occurred during those 19 days? Was the intensity of that follow-up adequate for her level of risk? 3. The fragmented care. Lindsay reportedly interacted with multiple doctors, prescribers, therapists, emergency services, and a psychiatric hospital. When care becomes fragmented, critical information can fall through the cracks. Someone needs to see the whole clinical picture and coordinate the treatment plan. None of this excuses what happened to Cora, Dawson, and Callan. Three children lost their lives, and their father suffered an unimaginable loss. But we should be able to hold two truths at once: what happened was horrific, and we should examine whether serious failures in our mental healthcare system contributed to the trajectory that preceded it. If we want to prevent another tragedy, those questions matter. #LindsayClancy

A huge missing piece of this story is how Lindsay is actually acting with Patrick during this time. Sure, they have a story for the lawsuit; but I imagine she was much more difficult to deal with during this time. 🤷🏼♀️

Sorry. As a licensed mental health professional for 2 decades- she refused care multiple times. You should know as a provider that if a patient refuses to follow a tx plan no one can help them

Clinical psychologist here couldn’t agree more. The lack of assessment and dx is abhorrent. She was ill and not treated with the care she deserved

It didn’t fail. She was not honest with them about what she was feeling. Let’s be clear she lied and you want to blame the doctors

Tracy Sander :
What went wrong was Lindsay Clancy was withholding information and flat out lying to her providers and even admitted to one that she was not consistently following any proposed plans.
You can blame the husband and you can blame the providers, but it comes down to Lindsay herself not being honest. She didn't get the help she needed because she didn't give the providers the information they needed to properly treat her.

If a patient is being honest about their symptoms, then an accurate diagnosis cannot be given. She likely didn't tell other doctors about what had been prescribed, she likely didn't allow those meds to fully take effect before jumping on another, and she didn't tell the doctor's exactly what she was thinking and feeling.

Dr Tufts fell down on the job. Testifying she didn’t show mania?? Did we all just throw hypomania out the window now? Just bc she wasn’t floridly manic doesn’t mean she isn’t bipolar. The response to first SSRI should have been a 🚩

As a retired attorney representing abused and neglected children I became so familiar with residential and psychiatric facilities. So I’m going to take even the best facilities off of the pedestal.

"We are not learning. We are not doing better". Bingo!!! I have a random question - isn't voluntarily checking into a hospital a HUGE red flag? It feels as though Dr. Goodheart was treating her as if she dropped into a CVS urgent care.

you started off with an untrue statement. it has literally not been proven that she is the one who killed the kids. they actively still need to prove that

My friend is a nurse working in a GP practice, when she went through labour with her first child both she and her child was put at risk by the midwife in charge. Midwifery isn’t her speciality, she put her trust into the people in charge. Much like Lindsay did with psychiatrists and doctors . Just because she is a nurse herself doesn’t mean she knows everything there is to offer in the medical field. She was failed so badly and my heart breaks for her.

Her insurance prescription company should have also flagged all the many drugs she was receiving. Not to mention the pharmacy. Our system is backwards.
