"I am not going to bury my son. My son is going to bury me." 💔 John Q (2002) was one of the most personal films Nick Cassavetes ever directed. Inspired by the real-life medical struggles of his daughter Sasha, who was born with a congenital heart defect, the film carries an emotional authenticity that extends far beyond its gripping story. Cassavetes would later revisit similar themes in My Sister’s Keeper (2009), once again drawing from his family’s experiences. While many viewers remember John Q for its powerful criticism of the American healthcare system, the filmmakers have said the story is ultimately about faith, hope, and the possibility of miracles.
