as someone with chronic illness, I literally AM taking damage most of the time when I'm doing work. my "health bar" is never full enough for everything I have to do in life. Mindset does affect this to some extent, but no amount of positive thinking or "finding joy" in daily tasks make me not sick

I don't disagree with you but I also think that if you're going to reference for example the book The Body Keeps the Score then you're basically just giving what is a layman's observations on a complex psychiatric topic and disparaging a pretty well regarded work by an actual clinical psychiatrist whose work focuses on complex trauma and post traumatic distress. I don't think judging by this video you've really got the evidence or knowledge base to actually contribute much to that clinical discussion. I do enjoy your videos and value your contribution on a lot of topics but I think when it comes to science based topics that those should be evidence led

If we want to think about life like a video game why not also think about the good things as adding to the health bar? Maybe that's a conversation we should start seeing. "What adds to your health bar?"

I don't take damage from social situations but it does drain my energy which replenishes with alone time. But that's not damage, that's using fuel and needing to refuel.

Mental health and pain disorders tend to stack on top of one another. There are times these verbal shortcuts help communicate our needs that need accommodating.

Is this different form finding something draining ie like socialising is draining but you still enjoy it’s just draining and you leave exhausted but not like sad

Curtis Johnson942 :
The problem is that there is genuine scientific backing for the idea that stress and trauma are cumulative. Like that's how life actually works. But also thinking about it regularly is probably bad, since it makes otherwise non-stressful activities into stress-inducing activities. IMO, this is an example of certain social science concepts where ignorance is genuinely bliss. Most people are better off for not knowing/thinking about it.

If there's something I desire to do and something else is in the way of me doing that thing I'm suffering. The level of suffering is up for debate but there's no mindset that's going to change the fact that I'm not currently doing the thing I want to.

Don’t question me :
You mean spoon theory? Why is that a bad thing for a certain mindset?

I tell myself “this is what I’m doing right now” and “everything is just a job that needs to get done” nothing is better or worse, it’s all just a task. Helps me not dread the job, or get bitter about someone else not doing it.
