Mr Mindful, you once said "Nigeria is a poor country using the analogy of revenue per capital, thus we can't afford welfare state or investment in social services" But the data are pointing towards the fact that our revenue per capital today is relatively better than what it used to be before 2023. Therefore, the masses are supposed to get more than what they used to get under previous regime when remittance was low. But the contradiction today is the fact that the government has completely cut ties from the welfarism of the people in terms of PMS subsidy, partial electricity subsidy which is expected to completely varnish in coming years, education subsidy is gone with university fees more than 500% higher than it used to be before 2023. The case is like that of diabetes type 2 when the people are "living in scarcity in the land of plenty". The defense of the government is that "they have turned Nigeria to a construction site as a results of multiple road construction". But the question is how much of government revenue is being spent on this said construction? Looking at the capital expenditure of the ministry of works, ministry of power, and ministry of housing, It is clear that the percentage of government revenue that's spent on capital project in these ministries is far lower than the percentage Buhari spent on the same ministry when they were still together as a single ministry. The said revenue surge is in the hands of the few while the majority wallow in poverty. This is the reality of capitalism, it creates enormous wealth on one hand and create extreme poverty on the other hand. Therefore, it is not a question of scarcity of resources, It's a question of whose hands are the resources concentrated. Until these resources are completely liberated from the hands of the few and used for the common interest of the majority, no matter who continues beyond 2027, be it Tinubu, Atiku or Obi, the Nigerian people will still not be saved from the current austerity.
