⚖️ The TikTok Attorney ⚖️ :
Legal Analogy: “Hi! We are going to be spray painting your neighbor’s property, and it is possible that if the wind blows, small specs of paint could get on your property. But don’t worry! For a super cheap price, we can cover your entire property with a tarp. We can’t control where the wind blows but we can offer you protection if it blows your way!” You see the legal issue there? A confession changes everything and a good lawyer representing the neighbor will take advantage of that confession.

Former Pest Control, we would say same thing if neighbors asked but wouldn't give discount and just would say bugs will scatter and it could affect them but hard to say since bugs dont always act the way we plan. Would offer service to them if it was an issue but in no way would we say that it was our fault just that bugs (or rodents) are wild animals and do things we cant plan for.

makes no sense though, there is literally nothing they can do to prevent that unless they can seal the whole property airtight and kill all the bugs inside of it

The chemicals kill bugs it doesn’t make them wander off to another house.

Jimbo McGergen :
Depends on the chemical they use. If they use a chemical that kills, it wont push them away from the property. If they a deterrent, it will. This is why we have to choose the best treatment possible for the customer AND the surroundings. This is where I would do a 2 part treatment. Start with the killer chemical, then come back and treat with a deterrent that prevents new insect activity. This way it acts like a fence, instead of pushing things out.

Dr Pleasant :
The real answer is that thats not how pest control works and any perceived increase in pest activity is coincidental at worst.

I used to live in governmental housing. The neighbor had "bugs". The landlord told me they was going to spray that apartment first then spray mine just in case the bugs came my way. I told the landlord to spray mine first then the other apartment. Cause I told them that would put a barrier and keep the bugs from actually coming into my apartment.

So you can just do it but not talk about it. That makes sense.

Natural for bugs to run to neighbors, however I thought that only happened at apartments 😂

And also this marketing tactic is more often than not a complete lie. Just like when they come and say “I’m taking care of your neighbors, do you know Bob and Jane?”

Except their own good lawyer will shut you down when the fact is the company has zero control over where the pests go after. No one sues their neighbor bc their neighbor sprayed for pests be for real.

as pest control tech i can say thats door to door sales are great and notifying a neighbor of potential problems is the nice thing to do, its also how we get more service. we cannot treat a property for free and cannot treat a neighboring property without documented permission. so no, there is no liability unless transfer is intentional
