these weapons used in the film by the dwarves to deny the bow and arrow advantage that the elves dominate is unfortunately not canonical at all and only exists in the film. HOWEVER! I would like to point out that the merit behind that design makes perfect sense. the dwarves would create something to deny the elves their favorite weapon.

what I dont understand, as a dwarf man myself, why did the elves only fire once? have the front line fire, wait a moment have the second line fire! the arrow destroyer would destroy the front lines arrows then the second lines arrows would land! its literally a lose lose but atleast then they wouldnt be down in the count so earlier

Spartans had the best counter. Shell shield. Which everybody covers each other with a turtle like shell, a full 360 cover. Not a single arrow can get through.
