This horrifies me. When I told my dad (retired RN) he was equally horrified, and he brought up the chronic wasting disease that was found in deer in MN (state we live in) recently. 😭

When i heard of 5 sudden cases of CJD in. Small town in MI, infested with chronic wasting disease deer? And 3 of the 5 had eaten venison?! Im sorry but I do not trust them thinking it cant transfer to people and hate that mystery

What's insane to me is that it has been illegal since 1997 to include mammalian protein in feed for most large livestock. However, continuing rollbacks of federal regulations and a lack of adequate staffing to ensure these laws are being followed is likely directly linked to cases like this.

Prion diseases and Lyssavirus scare the shit out of me. Zoonotic diseases in general are scary. I got psittacosis when I worked at PetSmart. I thought I had the flu so it went untreated. At that point I had severe pneumonia and it somehow damaged my liver.

Going from vet med to sterile processing, I hate this. I have seen numerous hunters arguing how CWD and prions aren’t even a concern, because “they’re not common in humans.” No one is recognizing quite exactly how prions behave 😭 or how the patient is handled when it is even a potential dx. Prions should freak everyone out.
