People saying that she only had a change of heart at the end did not watch this movie and understand what they watched… the telephone booth is the moment she realizes there’s something about denji and it peaks her curiosity so she doesnt kill him which we all know now she was going to kill him then…. after the pool scene is where the change of heart happens, when he jumps in, she fully starts to see the reality where she can also take a leap of faith and be someone she wasnt trained to be- she STILL put the mission first because that is all she knows but thats what a change of heart starts out as doubt and doing what you are more sure of- so they go to the fair and she asked him directly would he run away with her? She tells him that she will protect him. He shares his doubts because he finally has a life he loves that is bringing him happiness- a found family- she hears this and reverts because growth or a change of heart is not linear! Since he envisions with her while being in the city where makima (mind you reze KNOWS what makima is and thats why theyd be on the run) she continues the mission DESPITE really liking him since it wouldnt be realistic. The only reason she says what she says at the beach scene is to push him away because she knows he would not be able to give-up what he said he would miss- the things that was starting to make his life better- also I love the scene where she says he doesn’t know how to use his chainsaws because of course she means the devil, but and in all actuality he doesn’t know himself further showing he did not have the capacity to see outside of his POV and into what she could be feeling- fujimoto cooked with showing us the scenes where she chooses denji and makima kills her bc it sums it up perfectly she doesn’t just change her heart at the end she was strangling throughout the film just like any real person would when they have feelings
