@_ranafakhreddine12: One of the things I learned very early while teaching English in Lebanon was this: if my students only used English during ELA class, their growth would always be limited. So I started finding ways to make English part of their everyday lives. If I heard students speaking English during lunch, recess, in the hallway, or on a field trip, I noticed it and rewarded it. Sometimes it was a homework pass, a quiz pass, a small gift, extra points, or credit in whatever classroom economy we were using at the time. They loved proving they were using English outside of school too. Sometimes a parent would vouch for them. Other times, during parent-teacher conferences, parents would tell me without being asked, “They’ve started speaking English together at home.” That was always one of my favorite things to hear. Because eventually, the difference became visible. Their spoken English became more natural. They found words faster. They became less afraid of making mistakes. But it did not stop with speaking. I started seeing stronger sentences in their essays, clearer explanations in comprehension questions, and students who could express their ideas with much more confidence. They were not necessarily studying more English. They were using more of the English they already knew. That lesson does not change when we become adults. You can study vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and sentence structure for years. But if you rarely give yourself the chance to actually speak, so much of that knowledge stays in your head. Practice is what helps you access it, strengthen it, and build on it. Sometimes the next step is not learning more. It is finally using what you already know.
