Coco Austin breastfed her daughter to age 6. She said it was a bedtime bonding experience.

hot take, past 2 is weird. its not weird bc we think it’s sexual, it’s weird because it’s clearly and emotional thing with the mother at that point.

3+ is weird. I have a 3 year old. She can sit in a restaurant ask for a bowl of pasta and the drink she’d like. Sprinkle cheese on her pasta. Use a fork to eat. Drinks from an open cup. What would she need to breastfeed for??? These women are doing it for comfort and emotional reasons.

Whenever I bring up the fact that if it’s about nutrition they can drink it from a bottle….

The mother experiences oxytocin and dopamine. They jump to “you’re sexualizing it!” bc they haven’t confronted their own dependency on it

I think when they start really identifying what’s going on is when it’s odd. So like my two year old would be able to name things it’s weird

at a certain point it becomes solely for comfort and at that point I think we really need to focus on some self soothing methods.

This also ties into that mom who went viral a few weeks ago saying that parents have a responsibility to not let their kids be socially “weird”- we all want our kids to be themselves, but letting your kid be out-of-step with societal norms is setting them up for a rough time. Breastfeeding a kindergartener is setting that child up to be ridiculed by peers and have underdeveloped self-soothing skills. Don’t make choices that make your kid weird.

I know someone that was telling her son, “stop biting it - you’re just playing around now. You need to eat or leave it alone” and I found it weird that she was breastfeeding someone she could have a conversation with.

Who is it benefiting at that point? The kid doesn’t need it. Had a coworker who did “self-weaning” - her son weaned when he was in kindergarten after his classmates saw him nursing at the bus stop and picked on him. That was cruel to do to him. Not surprisingly, the mother has serious boundary issues with this now adult son.

i don't understand why yall can't just cuddle or hold your children if they need the comfort that badly. i can't imagine nursing my daughter when she has a mouth full of teeth. my baby needs comfort too but breastfeeding is not the end all be all for comfort. just feels like mom wants to be needed at a certain point.

I love the "many cultures or people in the past breastfed well past 4yrs old"...
like yeah, when food was scarce and there was nothing else to give them.... not because it's normal to do so. most societies and culture weaned well before 4

I worked in a daycare with 3-6 year olds, children who were still breastfed would grab at anyone and everyone chests, I could not pick up certain children because they would rip and pull my shirt down, I had a 5 year old rip one of my shirts and bra, fully tear it

If it was a bottle hanging out of the kids mouth and not a boob, at five years old people would say the child was delayed developmentally.

past 2 is weird imo. if your child is able to receive everything they need through table food, bf isn’t necessary

One of my friends is a teacher and had to deal with the student who was still being nursed. She found out because they tried to pull up her shirt… apparently mom didn’t teach boundaries toward other women.

I feel like I never see it brought up in these conversations but it also holds the child back from learning developmentally appropriate skills- by 2 they should be able to drink out of a straw cup if not a regular open top cup and if the majority of fluids they're consuming is still coming from the breast and it's easier/ more comforting/ whatever for them, they're missing out on learning a skill that will set them up for success as they get older. I have no problem keeping kids on breast milk as long as their mother wants to continue it, but solely breast feeding is hindering their development.
