3 SKY EVENTS IN ONE DAY 🌌👀 Wednesday 12 August 2026 is a BIG day for the sky - and here’s what to look out for from Birmingham/UK 👇 🪐 BEFORE SUNRISE - 6 PLANETS Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Saturn and Neptune are spread across the morning sky. But don’t expect six obvious bright dots! Mars and Saturn are among the easiest to spot, while Mercury and Jupiter are much lower towards the horizon. Uranus and Neptune require binoculars/a telescope. 🌑 THIS EVENING - SOLAR ECLIPSE Birmingham timings: 🌑 Begins: 6:15pm 🌑 Maximum: 7:11pm 🌑 Ends: 8:05pm At maximum, the eclipse magnitude from Birmingham is about 0.928, so this should be an incredible partial eclipse to see - weather permitting! ⚠️ IMPORTANT: Never look directly at the Sun. Regular sunglasses are NOT safe. You need proper eclipse viewing glasses/solar filters. 🌠 TONIGHT - PERSEID METEOR SHOWER And after dark… look up AGAIN. The Perseids reach their peak around this time, and this year conditions are particularly exciting because the peak coincides with a New Moon, meaning beautifully dark skies for spotting meteors. ✨ For the best chance, get somewhere as dark as possible, away from street lights, give your eyes time to adjust and look across a wide area of the sky.
