It's never cheaper for me to go through the rewards.aerlingus way. for example if I search DUB- MAN 3rd -5th Oct the total trip is €112 getting a fiver off using 675 Avios. Yet when I go through the rewards it's showing €107. 25 PLUS 7500 Avios (and that's the second cheapest option)

Try this. Look up accommodation on booking.com app. Then go through aer club site to booking.com, search same accommodation and look at the difference in price. You pay for the Avios!

The taxes with Avios sometimes cost around the same as the actual flight

Avios points and all ‘loyalty’ schemes with the airlines are a complete waste of time for anyone not flying business. I have been to 125 countries and always book the cheapest airline with the best times.

Do you know how the tiers work?? If I reach 301 tier credits in February do I just have the benefits until the end of March when it all resets?! Or do I keep Silver tier for the following year?! I can’t find the answer anywhere.

I managed to get a business return from dublin to toronto for €850 recently. Booked cheapest economy return at €510 then requested my free upgrade (as i had platinum tier) for one leg and kept an eye on upgrade price of other leg. One time it was an extra €460, another it was €1200 and on another occasion €240 - which i snapped up. Really does pay to keep checking.

where do you get that view of how much the trip is in Avios? under the balance on that home screen I only have "book a trip" and it gives the price in Euros, no option to change to avios
