Why does what you’re telling me remind me of the mechanisms in this debate. The Trap of the Turf War: What We Actually Own There is a debate raging in Pan-African spaces about who owns Black Panther—continental Africans or foundational Black Americans. I want to suggest something that will make some uncomfortable: the debate itself is the product. Not the conclusion. The argument. To understand why, we must look at what has been documented about the architecture of division. MK Ultra (1953–1973) was a CIA program of illegal human experimentation. The agency used LSD, barbiturates, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, and psychological torture on unwitting subjects—including Black Americans, prisoners, and psychiatric patients—to research mind control and behavioral modification. When Congress finally investigated through the Church Committee and Rockefeller Commission, they discovered the CIA had destroyed most of the records. We will never know the full scope. But we know the intent: to map the terrain of human consciousness and learn how to alter it without consent. COINTELPRO was the FBI's explicit blueprint for disrupting Black liberation. The stated goal was to prevent the rise of a "Black messiah" and to "neutralize" Black organizations. Documented tactics included forged letters, false rumors, agent provocateurs, and the deliberate exploitation of tensions between groups. The FBI didn't invent every disagreement, but it systematically amplified them. The goal was never to solve our problems. It was to ensure we were too busy fighting each other to fight the structure. Drongo Company, activated July 15, 2026, is the Army's newest Africa-focused Psychological Operations unit, attached to the 3rd Special Forces Group under AFRICOM. Its stated mission is counterterrorism messaging and countering Russian and Chinese influence. Its name comes from the African drongo bird—a creature known for mimicry and deception. The Army's own literature defines PSYOP as influencing the "emotions, reasoning, and behavior" of foreign audiences.
