@jdelarroz: D&D and RPGs are no longer the masculine adventure they once were, thanks to theater kids dominating the scene. An RPG designer weighs in. #DnD #RPGGamer #GeekCulture #TabletopGames #GamingCommunity
"Aight let's get started!"
"My character is a Half-Tiefling Sorcerer with a queer wolf soul that identifies as they/them and our triggers include spiders, goblins, kobolds, and trees"😬

People forget that nerds used to be ultra elitist and super misogynistic. People talk about how DnD has always been inclusive when Gary literally said women couldn’t play DnD because women can’t pay attention to it long enough. I did theater in high school and had to be around theater kids and it was fucking miserable to the point I just drug all my friends into it with me we took over stage crew and the prop department and would play magic and dnd during down times and just generally avoid most of the other kids because they were like this. Tried to bring a guy into our game one time and he insisted on his character being gay when it literally had no bearing on the story we were doing because we were doing an innistrad campaign and were the only non hostile npcs and I just gave up. It’s leaked into magic the gathering as well all the pre 2019 sets were pretty good then the gay got involved

The worst part in my opinion is that "theatre kids" gatekeep harder then any type of person I've ever met.

Your typical D&D group back in the day had one "theater kid" type in it.

dungeons & dragons was definitely not theater kids. I played back in the early '80s, theater kids had nothing to do with D and D

Anyone who denies that the sharp edges of d&d have been sanded down to appeal to a broader audience is deluded. I personally prefer the old vibes better.

People don't like you to bring this up, but everything has been so feminized in the last decade or two. Even the big brutish characters can't just be brutes, they have to secretly like cute things or be a big softy on the inside. Like damn can a character just be rough and rough and strong without having a secret girly side?

Also, too much whimsy involved with them. They want everything to be all rainbows and glitter.

It’s every fandom now especially anime and warhammer. Lot of tourists trying to gaslight everyone into thinking the hobby/community was always like this.

I love kids in their early 20s telling me what everything was like 10-20 years before they were born. It doesn't make me lose my shit or anything
