Fun fact- the 1752 plaque is from The Philadelphia Contributionship! Founded by Ben Franklin and the first insurance company in the country. They are still thriving in Philly!

The last owners of our 1760’s Philly Suburbs house were avid antique collectors and put one on our garage - not sure why they chose there instead of the house. My only explanation is that enormous stone barn burned in 1915 and the garage is built on part of the old foundation. Shown below is my dad, 73 years old, climbing around on the roof to scrape and paint fascia before he repainted the firemark 🤦♀️

In the mid to late 1970’s my aunt and grandmother both worked at the Betsy Ross house. They sold mock fire markers at the time. My aunt would bring home the unfinished fire markers and paint them herself so they could be sold.

Wasn’t cool when the rival gangs would set fire to your house and hold up that fire dept to prevent them from putting the house out because you choose the former over the latter.
