My parents were married for 28 years. My mom put my dad through medical school he literally had two shirts to his name. Once he graduated and started his career, he decided she should stay home to take care of the kids. For years, my mom spent her nights typing all of his presentations this was before computers. Then, when my dad started writing his first book, my mom spent her days and nights typing away. My Dad is also a writer, When his first book was finally published, they had been separated for about two months, and he dedicated the book to his new girlfriend. I’ll be damned if I ever become a man’s servant.

11 years of marriage, started off at 8.50$/hour. I supported and pushed him, he became a boss, big raises. After 11 years he ran off with another women while I was pregnant with our second. Guess what?! I made him a better man. A year after we got divorced, he got fired, walked out by security. Since then he has been jumping from job to job. I went back to school, used the energy i used to use to make him a better man to make myself better, and now my kids and I are the ones vacationing in Europe. 😁

9 years of working and paying most of the bills while he got his shit together. Struggling on the inside but smiling on the outside trying my best to make him happy. May of last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer that moved to my bones. I cooked him dinner sat him down and told him. He hugged me said everything was going to be okay. 2 days later I get off work early to come to find him moving out. He said and I quote “i deserve a healthy woman who can still give me what I want. I have no interest in staying and watching you die.” As of last Friday I am cancer free and starting to rebuild my life without him and I’ve never felt so light and free in years of holding myself back and making myself smaller so he could shine.

I was a pastor’s wife for over a decade. Free service at the church, free service at home, free homeschooling the kids. When I left him I got no alimony, no spousal maintenance. Now he makes 4x the money I make because I never had a career even though I got a bachelor’s degree from a damn bible college thinking I was doing everything right 🙄
