Rocky isn’t a pet, Grace and Simon are his pets he’s slowly trying to introduce so they don’t hate each other. Also your BloodyMary skits are some of my faves, it’s made me want to watch Iron Lung and I hate horror movies

Shipping is writing a romance for two characters who were not written into a romance. Complaining that the main romance duo (or trio or whatever polycule is happening) is taking up all the time and non-romance-plot characters are being relegated to a side role is like.... have..have you never read a romance?

I have read so much from the grocky/groadrian/bloody mary/bloody Mary on the rocks and im seeing no rocky as a pet so that seems like a their search or algo problem not a fandom problem 😅

I've never seen Rocky depicted as a pet. I've seen Grace or Simon joke about it to him. I've also seen him joke that Grace is his pet. But never a serious thing, just two friends messing with each other. What content are these people seeing?

I love how the auto-captions changed "Project Hail Mary" to "Project Harem Mary." Now all I'm envisioning is that Grace and Simon are part of Rocky's harem but in a more progressive sense, not the misogynistic sense.

Rocky is literally a full grown intelligent adult person. Why the hell do people keep calling him a pet? Just because he’s not humanoid doesn’t make him a pet for f sakes! I am so concerned for the people who think this way, like I just don’t understand how they get here. It’s a little scary 😭

Fandoms are glorious little worlds where anything is possible as long as you find it or make it. Lucky for me I adopt other people's content into my own headcannons or adapt them to just view everything together as a whole and it's delightful

Like, do people just say he's shown as a "pet" simply because he's there and not doing anything to progress the fic story? Cuz that's not acting like a pet, that's just being delegated to being a side character. Literally most of the fics I've read, Rocky is just "new human mean to Grace. Kick out new human. Jail. Jail for one thousand years" or is just straight up trying to convince Grace to shoot Simon out of the air lock. I've never read a fic where he's been downgraded to just being Graces pet.

In my experience, I have seen Rocky be reduced to a background character with little personality and be essentially a pet. BUT THATS NOT 90% OF FICS/FAN CONTENT??? HELLOOOO?? There’s handful of bad writers, but WAAAY more people who understand Rocky and write Rocky centric stuff and take him seriously as a character😭

I love your analogy of barbie dolls in the dream house. As on old school Fandom participant (not quite "zines out of car trunks" old - but closer than I like to admit) I think alot of the younger fans don't really grock the "fixing cannon w/your own Head-cannon" aspect of things - which is inherently a creative process. You look for other folks that share your vision and flock together, or realize your like isn't easily found, so you create it. - and get surprised when you find a kindred soul through the keyboard. I kind of miss Yahoo Groups and LiveJournal for that reason - connection, which is harder w/just skits on TickTok/YouTube/Instagram. Though I do enjoy things I've found, like your posts, both skits and discussions. thank you for shaing your insights and talent. km
