Route 66 doesn’t go through KC, but our place in the heartland makes it easy to tackle the entire road in pieces 🚗 Here are our highlights from the @Enjoy Illinois leg: 🛏️ the Mother Road Suite at the Loews Hotel in Chicago 📸 the official Route 66 sign — obviously a must 🥞 pecan pancakes at Lou Mitchell’s — the real unofficial start 🍗 Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket — some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had 🍦 Joliet: Old Joliet Prison, ice cream at Rich and Creamy, and the Rock and Roll Museum 🥰 the Gemini Giant in Wilmington — first of many muffler men and what kickstarted my obsession! 🌃 Legends Neon Sign Park in Springfield — even better after dark 🌭 Cozy Dog Drive In — so good we went back for lunch the next day 🏛️ Abraham Lincoln’s home + the Capitol Building in Springfield 🤯 a section of the original brick Route 66 🦃 accidental 100-year-old Turkey Tracks (easy to miss, so follow the signs! 🍽️ the tenderloin sandwich at Ariston Cafe in Litchfield ⛽ many of the original service stations throughout Illinois 🌉 walked the old Chain of Rocks Bridge — Illinois into Missouri, terrifying if you’re scared of heights like me but so worth it! 🌇 the Arch at sunset 🍦 custard at Ted Drewe’s 🍩 donuts at Donut Drive In before heading home Next up: @Visit Missouri and Kansas🚙 Follow along as we take on Route 66 one long weekend at a time! #Route66 #TheMotherRoad #KansasCityCreator #lokcal
