I always ask my grandkids “what was your favorite part of the day today then what was your least favorite part of the day” gets them thinking about more of a response and they know everything isn’t going to be perfect. What can we do to make your least favorite part of the day better, etc etc. definitely gets more meaningful

Keep asking how was school and follow up with questions…. If your kid has confidence in you as a parent, he/she should feel comfortable sharing any and all information.
