@robertdebease: Stop scrolling if you buy “clean” chips because you’re trying to avoid seed oils. 🥑 A UC Davis study analyzed packaged foods that listed avocado oil as their primary or only added oil. And the findings were surprising. According to reports discussing the study, 93% of the avocado-oil chip samples tested did not match the researchers’ expectations for pure avocado oil. Researchers used chemical testing to examine the fatty-acid profile of the oils and found that some samples appeared to contain other vegetable oils, including oils with profiles consistent with soybean, canola, or safflower oil. Some of the brands reportedly included in the samples were: Siete Boulder Canyon Kettle Brand Jackson’s Good Health ⚠️ IMPORTANT: This does not mean every product from these brands contains other oils. The findings only apply to the specific products and batches purchased and tested during the study period, and formulations or suppliers can change. Another issue researchers have pointed out: the U.S. currently does not have a specific federal standard of identity establishing exactly what qualifies as pure avocado oil. So if avocado oil is important to you, this is definitely something worth paying attention to. 🥑 Drop an avocado in the comments if you want me to show you what to look for when buying avocado-oil products.
