No. The rear delts are not the prime mover… for people that actually know how to do an upper back row. Read that again. - If you dare can say the rear delts are the prime mover in an “upper back” row, you might as well say the front delts are the prime mover in a chest press. Surely you wouldn’t… so don’t pick and choose when to know how MUR works - So. REAL LIFE APPLICATION. No. Everybody is not able to perform a proper upper back row. That is ok. Learn how to retract your scapula. There are plenty of people that I see do rows by just pulling their arms back with no type of scapula retraction. If that is an issue for you, yes, starting and learning how to do kelso shrugs is a great idea.  - But other than that, acting as if you NEED trap isolation when I know majority of people worry about this are far less developed than me, you’re just making things more complicated than they need to be. If you can do a proper upper back row, it is ok to stick to your row. A shrug isn’t needed. And you’ll get enough rear delt stimulus. IF you find your rear delts to still lack, sure, do a rear delt fly. No big deal. But most of you simply arent advanced enough to know what you’re truly lacking  - I’m more advanced than most people here, I don’t even do shrugs. My upper back is perfectly fine. As I said, for me, at best I can only do a single shrug, if any, at the end of my set of rows. That is 1RIR… and yall know the drill  - Things vary amongst individuals. Everyone’s row is not the same. So I’m not here to speak in absolutes. Understand YOUR needs if YOU are having issues with YOUR rows.
