Epic Life Tales :
Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) contains a major section about Bani Isra’il (the Children of Israel) and repeatedly describes how some among them responded to Allah’s guidance.
The surah recounts how Allah favored Bani Isra’il, rescued them from Pharaoh, gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture and commandments, and made covenants with them. It then criticizes those among them who broke their covenant, disobeyed, concealed or distorted revelation, argued excessively about Allah’s commands, or selectively accepted what suited them while rejecting other parts.
The name “Al-Baqarah” (The Cow) comes specifically from the story in Qur’an 2:67–71, when Musa told his people that Allah commanded them to slaughter a cow. Instead of simply obeying, they repeatedly questioned Musa about what kind of cow it should be until the command became more specific.
But an important distinction: the surah does not say every Child of Israel was corrupt or disobedient. The Qur’an distinguishes between those who remained righteous and those who violated Allah’s covenant. And Surah Al-Baqarah is not only about Bani Isra’il—it also teaches Muslims about faith, prayer, fasting, charity, marriage, financial dealings, Hajj, the qiblah, and many other matters.
