What do you think makes the difference between a controls tech vs controls engineer? As a tech I find myself doing a lot of programming, setting ip’s, setting points… etc

Controls engineer usually designs complex relays and designed the PLC as a whole like finding the circuit from a 120/208 volt panel 20 amp or more all the way to the power supply to convertor for the PLC down to the terminal blocks and relays etc and the techs usually are supposed to troubleshoot what’s is wrong such as circuiting or even the programming if they are advanced
