Born in 2011, she was rescued in 2015 from a trekking camp, where she had endured traumatic training. Years later, Kham La showed just how deeply she remembered the kindness of the people who cared for her. When she saw Darrick Thomson, a caretaker who had helped rescue and care for her, in the river, she immediately rushed toward him. She extended her trunk and positioned her body around him, seemingly trying to make sure he was safe. Contrary to the viral post claiming that Darrick was drowning, he was not actually drowning. He was swimming and reportedly pretended to be in distress to see how Kham La would respond. Believing that her beloved caretaker needed help, Kham La immediately reacted. She didn't stop to think. She didn't hesitate. She simply saw someone she loved in trouble, and rushed to help.
