Why do Canadians (as well as many other countries) who can afford it come to the US for healthcare of serious issues? (YES, they do. I work at a Major Boston hospital)

I have a cousin that married a girl from Vancouver, she had a stomach issue for years. It took her 2 years to been seen the first time since it was non life threatening, gets to America, has emergency surgery due to her pancreas being so enlarged that it was crushing other organs. So I’ll keep my low taxes, my choice to be seen quickly and not let the government decide when I live or die.

And it's not sustainable there. The US has over 8x as many people. It's not even feasible here.

We really don’t, there’s not enough spaces and majority of people don’t qualify. Not sure what your point is. Most people are taxed federally and provincially at around 40%. I work til mid June for free. Really hard to justify that.

The average Canadian pays half their income in taxes to support socialized healthcare. Canada ranks dead last among the G20 countries in access to said healthcare.

As someone who has experienced both, the only perks of the US system is speed of delivery and access to high quality specialists without referrals and wait times. But you only get to access those things if you have the money to do so. By contrast, Canadian healthcare can be delayed but is accessible to everyone. And that is the fundamental difference in the policies and therefore culture of the US and Canada. One cares about the wealthiest, every person for themselves mentality, and the other takes a hit on quality to ensure everyone has access. It isn’t rocket science. 😅
