@abc7newsbayarea: Community members in southwest Santa Rosa are participating in a new citizen-science initiative to track surface and air temperatures throughout the summer. Organizers say the information gathered will help shape a future "Extreme Heat Action Plan," designed to address long-standing heat disparities in the area. #heat #santarosa #Summer #temperature #data #abc7news

Are we not talking about how many trees have been cut thru the years ?! Come on !! Trees are cut to build apartments or expanding the 101! How many trees were cut during the Hearn exit or the Corby exit?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I live in Sonoma County and yes, the weather is racist towards the Roseland area cause it’s a predominantly Hispanic community.

I don’t live in the same neighborhood but fully support them along for heat reducing actions like planting more trees and adding living roofs or sides to buildings. These are actions that beautify and cool urban areas!

Soooo…partner with a nursery to buy trees in bulk and then fundraise for them? Even these maps show the area is not worse off than other area of SR. If you look at where the higher heat areas are it’s just where there is a higher concentration of people. Feels kind of misleading to say it’s systemic when it’s just a human density issue.

After growing up in Redding, CA and moving here it’s hard not to giggle a bit every time Sonoma county talks about how ‘extremely hot’ it is here… it gets hot, yes. But it’s definitely not melting the shoes right off your feet hot and yes that actually happens up there when the whole summer is 110-125 degrees that black top gets HOT

Yall are missing the point in these comments. The CITIZENS are coming together first even before the city. The reason yall are saying “its not hot” is because you have had to deal with it for so long, which is not okay

Appreciate the passion however, as a Roseland resident, I would recommend other topics to focus on. The weather is unpredictable. Older adults all over Sonoma County suffer when there are high temperatures but 2026 summer, has been a cooler one. Other broader items that can be predicted and planned for, can be topics like: road improvements, safe lighting in rural streets, sure plant more trees but focusing on the bigger picture will be more appreciated. Suerte and best to your Heat team.
