my group has decided our DM plays our characters better than we do. more than once he's had to take over for an absent player, and has passed more check/ Saves, and some better in combat.

one of my players had to miss almost a whole month due to school so they were like "just say i got kidnapped by my evil ex" and it opened up a whole new storyline and it was v fun having the players go save him once they were able to play again

I had to miss a few sessions of dnd for being out of the country and the party made a dumb decision which almost killed everyone so the dm when I got back let my character make a deal with zariel to save everyone

Anyone who misses when I’m dm goes to jail and that’s why they miss. It’s also always for something embarrassing like peeing on a guard

Had to miss 3 sessions in a row once and the whole time my character was taken over by a wraith 😂 only one to insight me apparently rolled a 3… my fighter was not pleased when he finally got free 😂

if i miss a session my character goes on a drunken stupor and tends to wonder off drunken, they generally reappear face down in the snow when I come back to session

My brother had to stop playing with his usual group and suggested I take over his character (he was trying to get me to interact with people) the guys said that only 1 thing really changed with the character, he lost his attraction to "Angel Daddy" 😂

As a DM, I don’t like playing my players characters. Those are their characters and only they know how they would act and talk. I always find a way for them to hold back if they give me a heads up about missing session. If they call out suddenly for a non emergent reason, they get penalized

play mostly characters my husband (the dm) knows intimately. we had a campaign where half the part ran a food truck; when I had to miss sessions my character would generate idle income for the party.

i couldn't make a season so the dm played my minotaur and ran him through a wall to get the enemies on the otherside that the party had heard. I approved of such actions because that was by fair the best way to be my character.

Wasn't the dm i was an eldritch horrific entity in a fox vessel (npcs sorta magical friend) Possessed the bard, had him do the chicken dance
