From what I’ve heard the typical statues are meant to attract evil which is why they look so scary but the pretty ones are meant to depict gods and heros or draw in positive energy/spirits to protect them they also use the pretty ones surrounded by the scary ones as a way to tell a story through art take this with a grain of salt though as this is just what I’ve heard from others

In Balinese belief, a pregnant woman naturally attracts evil spirits. An unborn child carries a very pure, raw spiritual energy, and the physical elements of pregnancy make her highly vulnerable. Dark forces are drawn to this purity to feed on or corrupt it so because they are so drawn to it it does the same trick as making them look scary.

Some of the statues are made to look like some goddesses or characters from folklore. So not all of them are necessarily evil but I also am very curious!! I wish we could hear the story behind every art piece
