Kitesurfing Guide to Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka 🏄🏼‍♀️ Kalpitiya is Sri Lanka’s kitesurfing destination, offering great conditions with steady wind and big lagoons😍 This spot has something for everyone, whether you are a beginner, want to work on your freestyle tricks or just love freeriding or foilling. 💨 Wind & Season Winter season: December – March (12-20 knots). My favorite season here! On-shore steady wind. I'm usually riding my 13 or 11m2, and kiting almost every day. For the lighter wind days, it's good to bring bigger kites or a foil. During this time of the year, you can kite directly in front of the beach. The conditions here are some of the best in the world for freestyle. Butter flat, deep, and has lots of space for jumping. Summer season: May – October (18-30, stronger winds). During the summer time, the wind comes cross off-shore, which means you don't kite at the beach, but in Kalpitiya’s big lagoon. You can also kite in Kappaladi lagoon, which is 30min south of Kalpitiya. The wind is more gusty. But you can take boat trips to Vella Island, which is super beautiful and flat. Questions: • My favorite time to go is February, and I've been coming here for the past 4 years 🥰 • Yes, you can kite foil or wing in the lagoon. • No wetsuit is needed. Only a lycra for the strong sun. • Lots of social vibes and kite community around the different kite accommodations. • For no-wind activities, you can go dolphin watching, visit the gym, or attend a yoga class. If you have the time, I would totally recommend visiting the south of Sri Lanka afterward. It's about 6-hour drive, and you'll find some amazing surf conditions 🏄‍♀️ #Kitesurfing #Kalpitiya #SriLankaKite #srilanka #kiteboarding
