I actually did something like this at my current job. My title when I was hired wasn’t properly encompassing the role I was actually playing. There were duties well beyond “additional duties as assigned” that I was taking on. So I went to my boss with a proposal that outlined the differences. They escalated it and eventually the official title change was approved by the board. Went from IT HELP DESK to IT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN, which encompasses much more than just help desk.
