@samfrenojo: @precious_wmm and I on @depthoffield_podcast discuss how creatives often mistakenly base their pricing on the cost of their gear, like a $2,000 camera, instead of the value of their art and expertise. I explain that once you’ve recouped your investment through gigs, the gear’s cost shouldn’t dictate your rates. Instead, respect for your craft and confidence in your skills should drive your pricing, much like a degree defines your qualifications.
Putting "Those people" aside. It's not really about the price of the gear, but the cost of staying in business.
If you have a car and use it for Uber, you incorporate the cost of car hire besides your professional fees so that at a certain point in time, when you do have to upgrade and buy a car (Equipment) you have the money to.
But definitely the price of gear hire/charge aught to remain within the frame of reason.
