@zachmovesabroad: I had stopped making really authentic content for two reasons: 1. I kept getting people saying mean things in my comments everytime I shared a true story about a real place. But because my experience didn't align with theirs, I was wrong. It wore on me. I deleted several posts and started making more "clean" content. And 2. People kept saying "British companies will never hire you if you speak ill of the USA." There were a few really earnest haters (could have been people who knew me personally), but I let them get under my skin. While it may be true, I don't think anyone with can deny many of the injustices that are happening, and my anecdotes aren't even that crazy comparatively. So I'm going to share them anyway. If that makes me truly a pariah, so be it. I'll try to be more balanced in my perspectives, as I was pretty angry when I initially left, which I think alienated a lot of my friends, but now I can be more nuanced

That's good to hear! I noticed a big shift to more of a 'generic expat influencer' style of content, but figured it was to do with having to heavily optimise your social media to pay the bills to be able to stay. (Side note: I don't know why those people were saying that you wouldn't get a job here in the UK if you'd been bad-mouthing the USA. Bad-mouthing the USA is practically a national pastime here. 🙃)

Ignore the haters and the criticism. I love your videos and they make me look at places and the UK through a different perspective. This has actually made me less depressed, as it’s showed just how many good people and things are out there. it’s also made me think about some of my assumptions - always good.
