If your kiddo STILL won't touch a veggie, this is your weekly reminder to keep trying!! Honestly, it can take over 100+ tries or exposures of a food before kids of all ages will want to actually eat it. While some resources say you only need to try 15-20 times, in my experience working with kids, and in getting my two picky eaters to eat veggies, it can literally take hundreds of times over months and months and months! While this can be super frustrating, this is typical, and totally normal. That's because kids taste buds literally change every two weeks. And accepting a new food is so much more than just trying it. They have to feel comfortable with the food, they have to be ok with the texture, the flavor, etc. Getting through each of these steps can mean multiple exposures throughout the process. So what should you do? Just keep giving it to them in small portions! Encourage them to take a "fairy bite" and let them alternate with a food that they feel comfortable with (ideally something healthy-ish, not dessert). And you should eat it alongside them to model behavior, AND don't make them a separate meal if they don't want to eat it. You can also get them involved in preparing it a bunch of different ways - sauteeing, steaming, roasting, as part of a dish, pureed into a sauce, etc. and have them try it all of those ways. Just because they don't like it today, doesn't mean that's forever. My daughter literally took 12 YEARS to like blueberries. She also took 12 years to enjoy any type of smoothie. I'm not kidding. And what was the preparation for her that changed things? Mixing blueberries into a smoothie (two for one combo! 😅) If you're struggling with a picky eater in your house, follow for daily picky eating tips! #pickyeaters #pickyeatingtips #pickyeater
