no fr that was a crazy leap. also I actually HAVE fed my hens eggs before and I can promise they do not WANT to eat as many as they produce. it would genuinely be such a waste bc most of them aren’t that interested and wouldn’t get enough nutrients from them anyway

Fun little thing. Wild jungle fowl developed around bamboo forests. Bamboo does this weird thing where whole stretches of it will all go to seed at essentially the same time every few years. Jungle fowl evolved the ability to lay eggs essentially in proportion to the amount of nutrition they receive. So when the bamboo seeds and there is endless food everywhere they will naturally lay more eggs. People then bred chickens to the point where we eventually got the egg laying varieties we have today that are capable of laying year round.

If you’re feeding complete chicken feed they’ll be ok. I feed them eggs when I have old ones or they are cracked or so gross I wouldn’t sell them. They do like eggs when they aren’t feeling good.

If they are producing good eggs the hens are healthy if the hens stop matting kr produce thin shelled or misformed eggs there could be a problem

Mine does it automatically. They will lay an egg where it’s risky like a counter then when it falls down and cracks they eat it
