simplicity????? let's get real honest here. oems care about mpg due to the feds and want return buys. they want follow on buys ~36 mo avg timeline from initial buy. so they drive engr to hi tech. multi variable turbos. multi speed auto transmissions. all that clunks out about 150k miles. where a solid lifter ~5L v8, non turbo, with basic fuel injection and 4 speed auto will last 300k+ miles if maintained. you can put lipstick on a hi tech pig - it's still a pig.
