im 61 and my dad taught me a valuble lesson when i was 6. he was a bus driver for school i was always 1st on bus we had 2 physicaly disabled children on bus..he used to say to me denise everyone is different but need to be treated the same..so as you are my daugbter you save a seat next to you for Timothy and set an example..i made a great frend with Timothy. he moved on lateer in school..i never forget this

You handled it perfect 💕 Im sooo sick of kids/teens/adults staring/laughing at my daughter, shes 10 and special needs, have had to shout at teens/adults before, with kids im way less sharpe obvs, the other day couple little kids mimicked my happy girlie singing (shes 10) and they laughed, I straight away said no, dont do that, shes a special needs child.

Bless, children these days do wonder what people's appearances are and I don't think they quite understand like you said that people can be born with things, everyone is unique. I remember when I was younger I didn't understand about dwarfism, like many would I asked a lady why she was so small, luckily she understood and laughed and pretty much gave me a lesson about dwarfism. It's not excuse but I was probs about 4 and still remember it to this day. I get kids can be quite inquisitive but sometimes parents need to step in like you said. ignore any unnecessary comments, Patrick may be different to others but he's still a lovely young man. stay strong x

my daughter was blind . when people used to stare n say things . i used to go fkin mad and get them told.. not the correct way but it used to break my heart.. its so hard .. i feel you 🥰

That's literally the perfect moment for a life lesson from the parents and the fact you had to step in, is horrific. It's just extra work for you that is unneeded and it's on us (people who don't know you) to fill in those gaps. I'm so sorry mate

I grew up with a sibling with a disability,used to say don't talk through me they are more intelligent than you, thought times had changed, mind kids now and they don't bat an eyelid because they were brought up to be kind and everyone is different 😊.

Children always ask the questions when my daughters wheel by in their wheelchairs ♿️and mostly the adults will say nothing! It takes a minute or 2 to explain or just acknowledge that people are different. Normalise disabilities

my daughter always asks and I always say because everyone is different and born different its just like your hair is blonde and mine brown or (my nephew) doesnt speak so I say like liam he doesn't speak everybody is born different, never new if this was the right thing to do or not ....but thank you for sharing thia 🥰🥰🥰

Sadly education and awareness doesn't always start at home and a lot of the time kids aren't always saying it in a negative way and are just curious, however, parents should still be using it as an opportunity to educate them. Sometimes the worst people are the very adults who should be teaching the kids. The ignorance of adults definitely filters down to the kids regarding disabilities and race etc. Kids should be taught that everyone is different and that's what makes the world beautiful.

I dont understand if your child asks such a question you explain that everyone is born differently that some people look different to others or some people's bodies or brains work different than others it is so normal for children to be curious by ignoring the child's question you are making it a problem !!!!
