The richest man on earth taking his rocket company public was an incredible marketing campaign, and that's what it was. People misread Elon Musk. He's a great businessman. He's an even better trader. He runs his companies the way a portfolio manager runs a book, building the story and then monetizing it. Some of those valuations are high because he's a great storyteller, not because the numbers got there on their own. Now the part everyone's angry about. Only a small slice of shares went to retail. Small supply plus enormous demand means a high price, and the institutions holding the rest watched their positions rise with it. People call that manipulation. That's how this has worked for hundreds of years. When you sell sneakers you do everything you can to drive demand up. That isn't evil. When you buy shares, that money goes into building the business. That is the entire point of offering shares to the public. This is called business. Your worldview decides your investment view. You can look at this and see something evil, and then sit out. Or you can identify the pattern and trade alongside it, because you aren't the one running it. It's down more than 50 percent from its post IPO high, per CNBC on August 3. I'm accumulating. Follow for the next one.
