I had a student years ago who had ADHD. The behaviors on his IEP included getting up and walking around. On the first week of school I made a deal with the mom that I wouldn’t call her unless he was distributive or there was a new behavior. He could get up and walk around if he needed to. I only called mom once that year and it was because he fell asleep and I couldn’t wake him. It was the first day back from a break and mom said that’s on her for allowing him to stay up late during the break.

You cannot call one persons child and say he was misbehaving if everyone else was misbehaving. In that case you call everyones parent.

My question to my kids teachers has always been “what can I do to best support you?” Unless the teacher is obviously wrong (it happens occasionally) I don’t tolerate throwing them under the bus, saying it’s their fault, acting like their time isn’t important, etc. my son got mad because his late assignment hadn’t been graded yet and said “the teacher said it was ok to turn it in late”. Great. But the teacher already graded the rest of the assignments and have moved on. They let you turn it in late, that was nice on their part. But they don’t operate on individual student timelines.

THANK YOU. I have 199 other students to worry about. I don’t have time to call just to “target” a student. I do often ask the student which parent they want me to call and if there is anything they would like me to tell the parent on their behalf. This at least makes them have some agency in the conversation.

teachers do have time for that, ive watched it for 8 years, istg they target some ppl especially some teachers that are js straight up sexist and have a direct hatred towards the male gender. a lot of teachers in my school favor black kids and target white kids, its rlly sad and unfair.
