The original Roman new year began in March (Martius), not April. January and February were added later by King Numa Pompilius. The idea of a 13-month calendar made up of 28-day months has a few major problems. First, a full moon cycle takes about 29.5 days, so with 28-day months, the moon phases drift by about 1.5 days every month. That gap quickly adds up, causing new moons to fall on completely different dates throughout the year. More importantly, 13 is a prime number, which makes it impossible to divide the year cleanly. Unlike 12, which splits perfectly into halves (6 months) or quarters (3 months), a 13-month calendar can't be divided evenly for financial quarters, taxes, or business seasons without cutting months into awkward fractions.

April Fools was brought around because 1st April was New Year and people would greet people with a ‘Happy New Year’… but when the calendars were changed they called people FOOLS who greeted people with a Happy New Year in April 🤨

They called it April fools because they changed it and the people that refused to go by the new 12 month year and continued to start the year in April was called April fools.
