@policebodycamarrestshq: 4 Richmond County, Georgia deputies have now been arrested and fired following investigations into the alleged misuse of the county’s Flock license plate reader system. The first case involved Deputy Jaquarius Yarbrough, who investigators say accessed the Flock system multiple times over a 28 day period for personal reasons, despite having no authorized law enforcement need to use the system. He was arrested and charged with violation of oath of office and a felony involving the improper retention of license plate data obtained through an automated license plate recognition system. Weeks later, Lt. John McKenzie, Investigator Curtis Hoskins and Deputy Joshua Johnson turned themselves in after a separate criminal investigation. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, investigators determined the three allegedly used the Flock system to search license plates for reasons unrelated to official law enforcement purposes. All three were fired and charged with misuse of license plate readers and violation of oath of office. These cases have raised new questions about how powerful surveillance technology is accessed and monitored.
