Can’t see what’s funny really, this is just logic at play, police pursuits aren't drag races. He knows he can't outrun a Ferrari, but he has to pursue to officially establish a fleeing/eluding charge legally. Plus, he only needs to get close enough to call in the license plate, radio units ahead, or identify the driver or vehicle details, not win a street race.
