@julias.wildlife: 🐒 What an incredible sighting - which lets us wonder how social Aye-Ayes actually might be! 👀 Aye-Aye Island in the East of Madagascar is home to 9 Aye-Ayes. The small one eating from the coconut is a juvenile male and about one year old. The other Aye-Aye is his older brother, which previously had opened the coconut with his incisors. 🦷 Afterwards, his smaller brother arrived and chased him away to start eating the coconut as he cannot open the coconut himself (his teeth are still a bit too small and he needs a little more time). 😁 What we see in the video is the older brother trying to get back at the coconut, but his younger brother is showing his dominance and will not let him have the coconut. 🥥 This is followed by screeching to signal his older brother to move on. 🗣 Social interactions between Aye-Ayes are rarely observed and studied as these elusive primates are solitary. Aye-Aye Island gives us incredible insights into the social behavior of these special lemurs. 🔎 I got the impression that the older brother is okay with opening the coconut for his little brother and is not too bothered when he takes over. It is known that male Aye-Ayes can be comfortable with each other unlike the more territorial females. ⚔️ There is much to observe, learn and research about these fascinating creatures! 💚 Please consider donating to the Aye-Aye Conservation Project as it is our goal to preserve and research about the extraordinary Aye-Aye. You can find the donation link in the bio. Any donation, even if it's small, will help us greatly! Thank you so much. 💚 #ayeaye #lemur #madagascar #conservation #endangered
