Does this sound like you? Before I chose to leave, I thought I was being caring, loving, patient, and understanding. And that was partly true. But the other truth was that I needed external validation. I didn’t fully trust myself, and I had been programmed from a young age to believe that good behaviour earned love and affection. I learned to overgive, stay quiet, and put everyone else’s needs before my own—because deep down, I believed that was how I stayed loved. But what I didn’t realise is that after you leave, the loneliness can become so loud that it starts rewriting the past. You remember the good moments more clearly. You minimize the pain. You start wondering if maybe it wasn’t really that bad… or if you should have tried harder. But grief can cloud your judgment. You’re not only grieving the person. You’re grieving the family you hoped for, the future you imagined, and the version of your life you thought you would have. And when that grief feels unbearable, going back can seem easier than moving forward into the unknown. Everything began to change when I started aligning my mind and heart, regulating my nervous system, reprogramming old beliefs, and learning to trust myself again. I stopped abandoning myself to keep other people comfortable. Now, I protect my energy. I listen to my intuition. I choose where my time and attention go. And the person I am finally learning to love, honour, and trust completely—is myself. But I also remind myself: feeling lonely doesn’t mean I made the wrong decision. Missing someone doesn’t mean the relationship was healthy. And questioning myself doesn’t erase the reasons I chose to leave. Healing can feel empty before it begins to feel peaceful. Give yourself time to grieve without using your grief as proof that you should go back. Choosing yourself isn’t selfish. Sometimes, it’s the beginning of becoming who you were always meant to be. If you’ve been questioning your decision, pause and ask yourself: Do I truly want the relationship back… or do I just want the loneliness to stop? If you’re ready to stop seeking validation and start trusting yourself, send me a DM with COACH. #LifeAfterDivorce #SelfTrustJourney #DivorceRecovery #ChooseYourself
