I get his frustration though. A running vehicle is worth a lot more than they act like. You may value a car at $3600 but good luck finding one for that price.

People don’t understand that they don’t get to CHOOSE whether or not their car gets totaled. If the repairs cost more than the car is worth, it’s gonna get totaled. I know what my car is worth and it will definitely get totaled if I’m in an accident.

I don't agree with insurance companies on this because if I can find someone who will fix it cheaper and under what it's worth then why can't I get it fixed because I'm not gonna find one that cost that amount anywhere

my sister was in an accident earlier this year where she bumped into a jeep and cracked her front bumper. someone had cut off a line of cars, hitting one and causing a small chain reaction. her car was the last involved and received very minor damage but to our shock, the otherwise perfectly fine car was totaled when they tore it down and saw that a sensor had received damage. it was a 2016 hyundai azera and was nearly mint until she took it in for what we thought would be a simple bumper replacement. instead they said the sensor alone was $9k and totaled the car. with the gap insurance and such she was able to just walk away from the loan, with a little extra cash in hand, but what a few days that was.

Yeah, this is frustrating. I just got my car paid off and somebody made an illegal turn in front of me and my car was totaled. And of course, the value that I was given, which I’m sure was fair is nowhere near enough to get a new car so then after only one month I ended up back with another car payment.

I remember being a teenager just learning to drive and a friend of my parents' told me that your insurance company had to make your car driveable after an accident no matter how much it costs. I told them I didn't think it worked that way 😂.

Listen. My car’s entire a/c system went out. I got an estimate. I already knew how much my car was worth. I did my own research. The a/c cost and my car’s value was the same. I’m not spending $2k on my a/c if my car is worth that or less. Am I crazy for thinking logically?? Total the effin car!!

I went thru this ….. did a buy back from ins, they took a small amt out since I was keeping it, they paid me enough to fix it and upgrade some parts …… they just didn’t know that last part lol

it's probably more worth it to fix an older car than to buy a new one. i used to think differently, but these new cars are absolute shit. plus the spyware that comes in them...yeah no thanks. my next car is going to be older than a 2015 for sure😂
