I highly recommend community gardens. In my town there are 9 locations you can go to and pick fresh produce and flowers anytime. You can also plant your own -it’s free to the whole community and an amazing program.

Myranda Kazos Sievers :
Here are things I have done since trying to start as a novice based only on your content so obviously just through the principle not sure it counts. 1. I save all bacon grease and tallow. Sure it’s dollar to calories dense but I typically actually use it in dog treats/ food making my own “pill pockets”, 2. I cannot help that I live where I’m contractually obligated to have sprinklers so I planted food in pots where the water already being used would hit. 3. When I need to wash something whether it be Tupperware or a vintage dress I’m working on I use the sunlight for stain removal and sanitation. 4. Even if a bit out of season I use the sun in my window sill to start plants in case or for my friend passing through that lives in a much different zone (ca). 5. I was throwing my “dead heads” away until I learned how much my friends with chickens desired them for feed, so now we trade. Also I because I have thousands, I give them away to fuel pollinators wherever the find themselves. 6. I do mass meal prep when I can afford to on one day (roast beef, spaghetti sauce, chili, etc) because I learned it took less energy to keep everything hot at once. Then freeze it, which also captures in my opinion more energy bc the fuller my freezer the less energy it uses. 7. We cooked cookies in the sun 8. When we FINALLY got rain after weeks of drought and 100 degree whether I say out by my gutters and (legally) collected rain water to prevent the area it was pouring into from flooding and instead relocate the rain water and store a small amount for the blighted areas of my garden. 9. In my activist chats we are using more a domino effect to focus on collectively solving or mitigating one issue at a time to avoid exhaustion. 10. I us ent seeds to feed the birds and care for toads by leaving a little bit of water out for wild life during this heat, I saved my body so much work and so many chemicals by keeping my yard full of happy, thirsty, and hungry volunteers for pest control. 11. Mulch was out of budget and it’s mulching time. I didn’t exhaust the summer raking pine needles instead I used those for my berry bushes idk if it counts but it was things I did while thinking of this
