Here’s my take. He’s being paid to defend her, duh. But he’s not being paid to clearly care for her. He behaves towards her as if he knows that she isn’t guilty. That something is fishy and it’s not her fault. He’s an extremely intelligent man and incredible attorney. This display of kindness towards her is deeper than we think.
