@instituteofhumananatomy: Your muscles get all the attention after a workout, but they're not even the tissue you should be worried about. 🔬 If you want to watch this whole video, it just came out on YouTube. Every time you train, muscle isn't the only thing under stress. Your tendons, ligaments, and cartilage take a beating too. Tendons transmit the force your muscles generate to your bones, ligaments stabilize your joints, and cartilage cuts friction while spreading load across the joint surfaces. Just like muscle, all of these tissues repair and remodel in response to that mechanical loading. Here's the catch. Unlike muscle, most connective tissue has a fairly limited blood supply. That means oxygen, nutrients, and the cells that handle repair reach these structures more slowly, so they recover and adapt more slowly too. And there's a bigger problem. Muscle warns you it's sore. Connective tissue usually doesn't say a word until an overuse injury has already set in. So if you feel real pain in a tendon or joint, it often means something is already wrong.
