Answer: elastic energy is stored in the place where clippers squeeze into the nail. When they cut through, resistance is completely gone and releases the energy and turns it into kinetic energy(this happens within 1-2 frames so like 0.001 milliseconds) Iphone records at 240 FPS (1/240), nail’s motion blur on the middle frame of the 3 frames of action is around 3-10 cm from its original position. Velocity=distance/time so we find that the nail could be moving at 15-40 mph at its top speed which also only lasts for like less than a second The reason for why the whole tip of the nail comes off instead of just half of it even though im only clipping half of it, is probably because uhh… hmm.. a crack is propagating through the rest of the nail within like 0.0001 milliseconds … because of the amount of force on the nail prob… like i dont know i have to think about this one a little more because it makes sense physically but its hard to explain but it does have to do with the amount of elastic energy i think because there’s just so much pressure and resistance and the release is instant so maybe the part of the nail ok im tired im going to sleep
